Car Show judging and classes ???
Is anybody here a car show judge for an official points type association? I was unhappy with the way some of the judging went last year and I'd like to bring it to their attention. Specifically totally finished vehicles in the "under construction" class winning trophies. While the young kids in their half-finished S10's didn't have a chance. Any links to official rules or guidelines to classes would be appreciated. Thanks.

Re: Car Show judging and classes ???
I helped judge the "Over, under" class, which is vehicles older than 25 years, and owners younger than 20.
All I can say is the guy who had daddy build his pretty truck didn't win. It seems rather rediculous that they would award trophies to finished vehicles in an under-construction class. What were they thinking/smoking? |

I'm not sure. I don't even know why they judged them at all. I don't think the judges even looked at the class on the ID sheet before they started judging.

Re: Car Show judging and classes ???
I know what u mean, theres a lot of politics involved, in our local show, the guys running it all have 55-56-57 chevy cars, so they have a class all there own, the truck class is 49 & up so theres 30 to 40 trucks all in one class and so my 71 dd is in with 56 cameo's that are never driven, brand new 4wd's and custom built 40 ford street rods! so i just enter for the cruise and have a good time.

Re: Car Show judging and classes ???
Your small local shows aren't going to adhere to any "official rules" in their judging. The only time you'll find something like that is at the nationally sanctioned shows like ISCA and such. At local shows, it's all up to the guy with the clipboard and it's all about his opinion. Plain and simple. I remember a show where there was a truck in my class that was basically stock that ended up beating me. Then there have been shows where I just knew I didn't have a chance against the trucks in my class and I ended up coming out with a 1st place trophy.
Whenever I show, I never care about the awards. If I get one, fine, but that's never my intention. I'm just there to show off my truck, check out other rides and hang out with old friends and new friends. |

Re: Car Show judging and classes ???
I know what you guys mean. I usually show up and pay to show off my DD beater. But, it just gets to me that these people have no sense at all of what they're doing. My 12 year old son would make a better judge than some of these knotheads. I'm talking about MAACC judged shows near me by the way, not the local cruise-in stuff.

Re: Car Show judging and classes ???
Local car shows are kinda funny about awards. I was at one last week and it seemed like who ever had the most AZ stick on chrome one.

Re: Car Show judging and classes ???
No. I haven't done anything new to my truck since 2004. It's "complete," but I'm not done with it.
