Gas tank options on a bagged 82 ?

Hi all,
Ive got a bagged 82 wrongbed c10 and just finished up the bridge etc out back (see pics). Its all worked well but my saddle tank is now too close to the deck for comfort so I want to go to the rear mount underbed type.

Im in New Zealand so shipping a performance online one isn't really an option (450 + 200 shipping) and they are 10 1/2 " deep.

Conditions are :
-fit within rails (26 x 22 x 8 deep approx)
-use factory fuel gauge.

Im open to suggestions, searching showed loads of guys putting mustang and burb ones in 67-72's and earlier, but what about the newer ones ?

Ive found RCI and summit fuel cells that fit but am not too keen on plastic.

Any suggestions are appreciated, right now I'm looking at having one made.

Find a local who can weld Alum and have them fab one up. Just make the stock style fittings.

Thanks for the replies,
Having one made is an option, there are guys in town I would trust to do it but Id rather a semi stock looking one if that makes sense.

Jason, what depth are the blazer tanks ? Is that what your're running in your square body ? which I love by the way, the two tone rules.

Just remember hes in aus shipping on anything will kill him.The k5 blazer tank 73-91 will work new is best but good luck finding a used one in aus.You could go to a junkyard and see what cars used a smaller tank you could rig up in the back of your truck.

Re: Gas tank options on a bagged 82 ?

I can get a blazer tank locally but Id like to keep the bed floor at the stock height if poss, I use it plenty for bikes and the like. Although I guess thought it wouldn't be that much work to raise the rear section a few inches.

With the blazer tank do most people run the filler on the floor of the deck or can you put it on the side on the inside ? I saw one of the 67-72's on here where the guy had a jeep filler on the inside, looked pretty slick.

The other option I was looking at are these summit ones http://www.summitracing.com/parts/SUM-290108/ , cheap and shipping is manageable, will these plastic ones deteriorate under the deck ?

Thanks again for the info.

Re: Gas tank options on a bagged 82 ?

FYI....the tank dimensions are on LMC Truck's online catalog, http://www.lmctruck.com/icatalog/bzc/full.aspx?Page=123

looks like...
25 gallon : 28 3/4" x 21 1/8" x 10 3/4"
31 gallon : 28 3/4" x 21 1/8" x 12 3/4"

may help, may not....

You can put the filler anywhere you like just have to run a gas safe tubing.
