Well, The kit is on. After the 5-6 kit went on, we ran into clearance issues with the stock ralley's. Instead of grinding on the spindles and control arms, we decided to buy some wheels. KMC 17x8.5 with 255/50/17's. I wasn't ready to buy wheels but I think my son was okay with it. We still need to drop a bit more in the back to level it out. It rides pretty good. Next we're going to dive into the smoker under the hood. I think it's time for a new crate motor. Glad I got a good deal on this thing.

Lookin' good. Sons are a great excuse for dads to get more toys. My son drives a 64 El Camino. My wife doesn't understand all of the attention it gets, but we have a good time with it.

Man this reminds me when me and my dad were in the heat of rebuilding my 73. I love that thing, and it deff. made me appreciate it more then if he would have just bought me a new truck or anything to that sense. I'm 17 now and still look forward to starting that thing every morning. looking great by the way!

Thanks. I'll tell you what, my son has learned more in the last four weeks than ever before. What happen to those kids that know how to trouble shoot and figure stuff out? They all grew up and had kids with electronics. I like teaching him the Monster Garage stuff. You know, cutting wheels, torches, grinders and bondo.

I hope you guys keep it the same color it is, it is truely looking great. And I wish I had the tools to learn the Monster garage stuff ha, I just know how to rebuild motors, diffs, workin on my first tranny here soon, but all is learned it time. I will make sure too keep an eye on this thread!

Nice solid foundation! Looks great with those wheels. Question, were the issues with the wheels rubbing of the control arm? If so, I'm nervous about ordering the 4/6 kit. I thought only 3'' spindles had issues with 15's. McGaughy's is a 2.5 spindle with drop springs correct?

From what I understand, a 15" wheel with more than a 4" back spacing is going to hit the spindle and control arm. My stock rally's hit both on a 2.5 spindle. You only have to grind a little bit off the spindle to make it work, but the control arms will need some cutting and welding. If you plan on buying McGaughy's, I would suggest calling them and tell them what you want to do. They are real nice to deal with. They don't sell retail from the manufacturing plant but they answer all of your questions. We'll keep it black for sure. |
