Re: 72 camper special 89k miles is it worth it?

If it's a '72 then somebody changed the front clip, which means it's not the original paint. More than likely the seller is confused on the trucks vintage.

Re: 72 camper special 89k miles is it worth it?

does it have disc brakes? have you checked the title and matched it to the VIN plate? from the looks of it , it looks to b a pretty solid old truck . weather it is unmolested original or a montage of spare parts i'd think it is well worth the asking price as long as it has a clear title that matches the vin

it's not a '72. wheels are easy to find. looks to be well worth the asking price if it runs, stops and drives good.

looking at grill, bumper, doorpanels ,bowtie in hood and steering column I will say it is a 1970 if original.

Re: 72 camper special 89k miles is it worth it?

would be a 70, not a 69. the woodgrain on the door panels was 70/71 item, but the front clip is 69/70.
So if original, its a 1970 C/20 custom camper (not camper special... thats a ford). the split rims probably ARE the original wheels... but 16 inch wheels can be had quite easily, and 16.5s could be had probably for free since most people want to get 16's.
As others hsve said, if the title and vin match, ad a good running/stopping rig, then it is worth the 2k

I will agree on it being a 70 model. Looks like a "customcamper/20" emblem over the side marker light. Correct emblem, wrong spot...

Re: 72 camper special 89k miles is it worth it?

Looks like clean honest vehicle. The intended use will answer if its worth it. From the looks of it, it is a 3/4 ton, it probably gets around 10 mpg and with 4.10 gears, it won't be as freeway friendly as a 1/2 ton. Patina, surface rust, seems to match the typical pattern, heavy on hood, less on sides.Looks like its never been wrecked. Tailgate looks like it was removed when hauled a camper in its earlier life. Give away signs of recreation use are the hooks on side of bed, running boards, large factory mirrors and extendable rear bumper. Very easy to find early to mid 80's 16" one piece wheels. With 89K, should have a lot of reliable life left in it, if not abused.

Re: 72 camper special 89k miles is it worth it?

The 89,000 miles is questionable. If PO has documentation that would be nice. Many of you young un's forget that the odometer starts over at 100,000. So it could 189000 or 289000. In 40 yrs with moderate driving it could have over 400,000, and many do. Ha

Re: 72 camper special 89k miles is it worth it?

Engine looks like it has never been rebuilt and seat upholstry on driver side is still intact, leads me to believe mileage is accurate. Most of these custom campers were not bought for business use or for high mileage commuting, looks like it was used as a recreational vehicle most of its life.

Re: 72 camper special 89k miles is it worth it?

if i buy the truck it will be an occasional driver cruiser / work truck. would be cool to find vintage camper cheap. but 10 mpg would be hard to swallow 12 would be better. i definatly will look at gear ratio before i would buy it. did they at that time have 3.73s? will spid say that or just have an option number?

I would think its original 89K on it, looking at seat and arm rest. Its a good buy at $2000 great buy at $1500

4.10 is as good as you could get in an inline or small block 3/4 ton truck. The big blocks got a 3.54 though.

Yea it likey has more than 89k. But thats ok. I'd say it's worth 2k plain and simple. Pushin 300k on mine. Runs real good.
Like mine (a 72), Sold New with Camper (as a set), Original bed lumber, Same rust issues, But I drive it everyday. Great Truck! Wanna Camper?
