Can anyone recommend a manual for a 66 C-10. The PO tried to do some re-wiring and didn't do a good job. When i step on the brakes the dash light turn on. |

Re: Timing Marks and Timing
hope this works, my scanner didn't want to produce a decent picture:
all this mark amounts to is as if you took a triangular file and made a little notch about 3/64ths wide and deep on the pulley lip (in this picture it's the lip closest to the timing cover tab but yours may be different if the pulley sits closer to the cover, i.e. under the tab)

Re: Timing Marks and Timing
I'm getting ready to pull my dizzy and put an HEI unit in. I'm trying to figure out the timing. I have no timing tab on the front of the timing cover. It looks like the truck runs (not well) right now with the timing about 1 o-clock position on the damper. I'm thinking TDC is at somewhere around 12 o-clock position. I guess I'll just use that as a starting point with the new distributor. Does someone have a picture of the stock timing tab for a 283 about 1965 vintage? How about where I can find an aftermarket timing tab?

Re: Timing Marks and Timing
You can buy the Mrgasket bolt on timing tab, it uses two bolts on your timing cover then that will get you closer to your mark..

Re: Timing Marks and Timing
I got one like that without the adjustable part at Kragen. Had to return it because it wasn't close to the engine mark and actually covered the damper so it was about an inch to wide and about 2 " to short to reach my damper mark. Mr Gasket makes a few others but but most are made for a 8" damper. Maybe I'll just take a chance on one of those to at least give me some kind of mark to go by.
