What do you guys do?

Hey all,

What all do you guys use for protection for your gems down low? I mean...like skid plates and such for the Differentials and transfer case and such?

Im not planning on doing any rock crawling but i will be doing some offroading and muddin' so what could i use? I see some of your guys dont even have protection for that stuff (or im just blind)

Anyways what would be good?

Matt

Re: What do you guys do?

I have a front diff cover guard that was backyard fabbed. I also see alot of guys welding plate steel to stock covers on the ring buldge. I am glad to have mine and have hit it on a few rocks running trails. you never can tell whats in the depths of a muddy section. I am also planning some type of skid plate for the transfercase. Aside from that a gas tank skid and trans pan skid (if automatic) would be a good idea. On most GM's the oil pan is tucked up high enough were it should be safe

Re: What do you guys do?

I run mud . So nothing ,no skid plates or guards.Seems they make it harder to wash things up later .

If was was in the rocks, Yeah you bet I would try and protect invested money .

Re: What do you guys do?

My method has always been to keep my vitals off of harmful objects. Now with rock crawling it`s a different story. They head right for what is bound to try to destroy your rig.Hi-steer is one thing I`ll be doing when the Dana60 goes up under my`72.The tie rod is the n=most vulnerable thing under there.Just pulling up to an object to size it up can tweak a tie rod.How do I know? I`ve always run transfer case skid plates because of the obvious high-center situation. They can be made out of plate real easy and mount to the crossmember. If your driveshafts hit onto anything they`re toast so the idea is align them away from objects and put the tires into or near the big object.Technique is far more valuable a protection device than any piece of hardware.Differential shields that cover the u-joints below is another great idea.I can`t afford to tear my stuff up anymore and my wheelin`style reflects that.My experience has been,If ya wanna play ya gotta pay.I`ll never own a 4wd I won`t wheel.I just wheel them gentler to preserve them and to save a lot of money.
