Roll bar question...

I've been looking for factory roll bar for my '71 blazer but nothing local (within driving range) ever comes up for the 69-72's. So my question is will any of the later model roll bars fit in?

Thanks!

Re: Roll bar question...

To my knowledge, no, at least not without some modifications. By the way, there is no such thing as a "factory roll bar" on these blazers, they were all aftermarket units installed by the dealerships.

Re: Roll bar question...

not to hijack your thread but maybe you should have asked the question what are some rollbars that people have used in theirs and what if any modifications have been done to them to make them fit. Also if you ask nicely maybe they will put up some pictures so that you can see what they look like... i am pretty interested in this thread myself... i know the bar i want but dont know how to find it or what it originally was for.

Yes this is the one that was in my Blazer when I bought it. Several folks said they thought it was out of a late 70s or early 80s. It didn't mount on the wheel wells in the same place as the '72s did but it did not look bad. I sold it a few months ago for $40. Just keep surfing your local adds, maybe something will come up. Also, maybe take a few measurements off your Blazer and hit the junkyards & you may find something that will work.

Critter- good info, didn't know they were all "stealer" installed.
Woody, great suggestion!
F.I. D. that's what I was looking for, that looks like a pretty good fit. I could live with that.

I didn't realize that. I have the original carpet in my 72 that has the carpet edging (binding) around the tubes. Was that done by the dealership? Just curious. I've also seen different style roll bars on the same year model, rather than going straight down they would extend then angle downward further back on the wheel well.

I'm going to follow this thread.

Re: Roll bar question...

This is one I got out of a 74 chev truck. I had an inch out at bases to lower it because of carpet and padding and head liner, did not want it to close to the top.

I got the style where the rear legs mount just behind the inner rear fenders.

Me? I got it from my dad who bought it new 10 years ago. It's still in the plastic baggies, with the mounting hardware still in the box.

Re: Roll bar question...

That one out of the '72 truck looks great, I like the locations of the rear mounts actually better than the blazers because they won't interfere with access to the rear seat. Probably much easier to track down than a Blazer roll bar too. Was it chrome originally or did you have it done?

I tried to find an after market type but couldn't find what I wanted. I found the one I have cheap did some modifications and did have it re-chromed. maybe look in wrecking yards.

Re: Roll bar question...

there is one like that one from the 74 truck down here in binghamton. Only about 4 hrs from Enfield, CT, not sure how far you are from there. It is in the junkyard, but I can get pictures if you are interested. Probably be about $100 or less.

That's the one I'd rather have than the straight factory one that's in mine now. May have to fab my own I guess.

Thanks for the offer, very nice of you. That's a pretty good distance from me so I'm going to search locally a little more but if I come up empty I might ask you to grab some pics. Thanks again!

That,s the same thats in mine. Its made by smittybilt, whom no longer make it, no matter how many times you call, or how many time they transfer your call, or how much you beg. (i tried to get one for my brothers birthday) I think that it is strange that they wont build to order. After all its just bending pipe to a design thet allready have. Heck I would even have it power coated or chromed my self.
