gas gauge at e when half full

I got a new sending unit, it works great, but shows empty when still 1/2 full.

At E it will only need 10 gal to fill. The tank should hold 19 gal? On my 63, stock tank.

Ideas? Not sure if I can bend the arm on the sending unit? Or just live with it till I go under bed tank.

o- got the wheels and new tires on a couple of weeks ago, MUCH better, will post photos soon. Ralleys painted black, and 255/70R-15 Continental CrossContact tires. I need trim rings and a chance to add the 'special' paint

Sounds like you have a 30 ohm sender in the tank and a 90 ohm gauge, or a bad ground at the dash.

Re: gas gauge at e when half full

im going to guess that it is a stock relacement (0 to 30 ohm) if thats the case then i would take it out and see how far the float is above the pickup tube it shouldn't be more than 2in i think check this and if you are planing to put a tank under the bed soon id just leave it hope this helps a little

Yes stock replacement so both are 30 ohm.

The float rod bent wrong is what I was guessing- I will try to pull it and see how it is vs pickup. PITA so I don't want to do it much.

Thanks

Bending the rod, although a possible solution, is not the proper way to address the issue. I venture to guess it is a compatibility issue with the ohm rating of the gauge and the sender. Do a resistance test on both, to determine if they are the same ohm rating.
