Cutting hood?
I am very close to driving it. Need to do something with a hood. Nothing wrong with original hood. I don't know how long I'll keep this set up. Whould you cut original hood or try to find another one first?

I see most run it without hood and hinges, just hope you have a car to use in the rain. If your hood is really nice, you might want to find a cheap one to practice your cut on if you are going that route. That motor looks mean!!! nice job.

No hood, or see if someone has a hood with a big nasty dent in the middle... Make sure there are no low flying birds around when you stomp the gas, haha. looks awesome!

Don't cut up a good factory hood. Get a fiberglass one or as stated a dented one from a Recycler.
Truck looks good by the way.

I guess my 2 cents.......don't cut the original hood if it's the same color and in good shape. Just be prepared....cutting the hood on these is a nightmare on elm street. The rear brace is a challenge. With that said, I think some cars/trucks have the lines to look good without a hood. I don't think these trucks are one. I ran mine for awhile without a hood and then realized this is not 1985.
You can forget about fiberglass too. I did quite a bit of research on that. You can get some race weight hoods that will be a pain to get on and off by yourself. You almost have to pin it unless you want a huge hole to cover the swing forward they have. Plus....you have a fire and everything will be toast before you can get it off. |

It want matter if it's Fiberglass or metal if it catches on fire. You aren't just going to lift it up like a factory. I'd rather have the Fiberglass than a full metal one to lift off. I don't think you could do a tilt on this one but it may be a option.

Could you split a hood down the middle and hinge it on either side so it opens that way?

I got it going. Couple small issues. Minor oil leak and only 3 psi of fuel pressure. During short drive I kept on looking at shifter indicator. It feels like its in second gear. I should of done this install sooner. Next trip is a dyno shop before I start beating on it. Pulleys set up for 6 psi. One thing I noticed is that a blower can hide a cam. I am running a little over 250 at .050 duration, solid cam and idle is smoth.
No hood for now. Thanks. |
