307 too much timing?
This weekend I got my new Skip White HEI intalled. Everything went as smooth as silk until I went to set the advance. I set it to 7 degrees initial, and the centerfugal takes it to about 25 degrees at 2500 rpm. When I hook the vacuum advance up it starts at about 15 degrees, and tops out around 45 degrees. That seems a little high to me. It runs perfect though. Is this too much timing for a 307?

Probably not. If it runs good, has good response, doesn't ping or hesitate, then it's set the way it needs to be. One thing to remember is that once the throttle opens to a certain point, vacuum advance is lessened due to pressure drop. The mechanical advance is what comes into play higher rpms.
Keep a close check on pinging or rattling, as some people call it, which would indicate firing too soon. Also, the gas you use will have some effect on performance so use reputable gas companies not the little corner stores with no affiliation. Thanks for the info. I searched around on the forum and basically confirmed what you said. Like I said it runs perfect, it just seemed like to much advance. If it ever stops raining I will get it out on the road and see if it drives better now that I have HEI.
