Lowering 69 Burb
I would like your input on how far I need to lower the rear of my 69 Chevy Burb and if it will need to be C-notched. The front will be lowered 3.5 inches, 2.5 using dropped spindles and 1 inch by springs. I'm thinking the rear should be dropped 4 inches to look correct but not sure. I will be using 17inch rims but not sure on tire size.

Re: Lowering 69 Burb
I would think the back should have 2 more inches of drop than the front if you wanted it to sit flat or less rake than factory. Most static drop kits are 3/5, 4/6, 5/7, etc. I have read that anything with more than 4" drop in the back requires a notch especially if planning to haul anything, however I talked to a panel owner with a 3" drop who notched his. I personally have never lowered one of these so hopefully someone with more experience will add there input. You may also want to post this in the suspension forum for more response.

Re: Lowering 69 Burb
Thanks for the info on the static drops, I just not sure the amount of drop in the rear I would need. I now will c-notch the rear so I'll not have any problems.

Re: Lowering 69 Burb
I went with 2 1/2 spindle/disc combo and 2 in spring, but on a 3/4 ton big block. Which put me at about a 5 1/2 drop. The rear has 5 in truck springs. Which with the extra weight of the burb, put it at about 6. I did NOT notch the frame. I have hit the bump stops, but I wasn't paying attention, and hit an intersection too quick. On regular driving it hasn't been an issue.
I agree.... Early Classic Enterprises was a wealth of knowledge. They were who advised me on the diff springs, and what I could get away with on the big "8 Lugger" The truck still has some rake, but I'll live with it for now. Not going to start cuttin until I'm ready for the bags. |
