new truck bugs :)

Well, I picked up the 77 Blazer last night...seemed as if I had to wait forever!

I am very pleased with it but noticed one thing on the way home. I decided to see if it had any oompth so I got on it pretty hard from a standing stop...it accelerated fine but right before the 2-3 shift it sputtered and felt like it wanted to stall. I immediately got off the throttle and it did not stall, but it shouldn't be doing this. I am going to be changing the cap and rotor and check the plugs but i am not sure if this will be the solution.

What do you guys and gals think it is?

Also, it doesn't smell like it is running rich, but when you de-accelerate from above 40-50 MPH or so (or downshift manually) it "crackles" thru the exhaust...sounds cool don't get me wrong, but could the carb be out of tune or running ruch and expelling the excess that way?

It's running out of gas it sounds like. Throw a fuel filter in it as see if it goes away. Clooged filter will restrict the flow into the float bowl and it will actually run out of gas till you get off it and it catches back up.
As for the back fire....check for any vacuum leaks.. A quad has a floating set of metering rods. The mains are not mechanicly controled the are totaly controlled by vacuum. When you give it gas the vacuum drops and the rods rise. When you get off the throttle the sudden vacuum sucks them closed. Vacuum leaks on the carb can cause this to be delayed. Lazy spring on the top doors for the secondaries will also cause issues.

I second the fuel filter and I would look at the fuel pump too.

I agree, fuel filter, or possibly fuel pump. Either way, it sounds like it's running out of gas to me.

Thanks for the help guys...I don't know what I was thinking and why I didn't think of that right away...must be the 4cyl/fuel injection/Ranger driving brain fart! Maaan I miss driving a carb'd V8...been almost three years since Yeller has seen the road.

I bought a new fuel filter today, will put it on tomorrow. If that doesn't solve the problem I will put on my Carter fuel pump that was on the 355 that WAS in Yeller... know that works fine.

I'll keep you updated.
