Great day at the yard
So I went to the junkyard the other day and they had a 71 truck in there that someone has started working on, but then abandoned and scrapped. Well, I pulled the wiring out of it, including the switches. They only charged me $10 for the ignition switch and thre the wire in due to the other stuff I was buying for my Explorer project. When I got home and removed the headlight switch and ignition switch, I was pleasently surprised.
The harness (350 warning lamps harness, headlight engine and dash) The headlight switch - NEW! The Ignition Switch - NEW! So it was a good day for sure. Got a working key with it, but the matching door locks were long gone.

Re: Great day at the yard
Can't buy trucks out of the yards here or I would have tried. They have recently had a 72 GMC k20, 68 C20, 71K10, 71 C10, and a 71 K5 in the last 6-8 months, but most have been plagued with NY Rust. I would have bought the K5, even though it was almost gone, just for the Matching numbers body, motor and frame, but it came in and got processed in the 2 hours I was there pulling parts for another car. Unfortunately they can't sell cars that don't have paperwork.

Re: Great day at the yard
Here in Missouri, the yards can't buy one without a title. But yards are few and far-between. One local place that buys vehicles, but they crush them as soon as they come in.

Re: Great day at the yard
Oh yeah, I forgot my other recent purchases off this truck:
Almost perfect Passenger fender. Just light surface rust in a couple spots. Unheard of in the NE. Small ding at the front. $15 on sale the day I got it. And a pair of 72 Door panels. $10 and good enough to work for now. Paint them black and they'll look great.

Re: Great day at the yard
Had another good day in the yard friday. Picked this up for $20. Figures I would find it after I bought one from a board member, but oh well.
It's got some cracks: And missing some pieces: And some good parts: But overall, it should be good for parts. Might try and get another busted up top to rebuild this one if I can find it. It is out of a 76-78 I believe. I got the bolts, and the lower piece that sits the rear up. The top, hinge, strap, latch, and bottom are all in good shape, the trim ring is decent. The upper part could use to be replaced, but oh well. Also was a sad day, cause the one yard with all the vintage stuff crushed most of it. Included a couple C10,s and C20,s, a burb, a 66 impala SS, 64,65,65,69 442,s, cosworth Vega, and a bunch of other stuff. Too bad though.
