Tire size help....
Just bought a 1983 short wide chevy scottsdale, haven't taken pictures yet, it is clean and very straight, although cheap paint job is flaking off... One owner truck with 305 and 700r4...Unfortunately, the tranny slips badly when in 3rd, hopefully it won't cost too much to fix, guess we'll find out next week. Anyway....Currently it has 215/75/15 tires on it which seem too small, height-wise, and the speedo seem a little fast...The door jam shows it should have LR60x15's...What does this convert to, p-metric size....ALSO, it has a GQ1 rpo code in the glove box for the rear axle....What ratio is that???

My truck has 255/70/15 tires all the way around. They fit very well on the wheels like you have.

Cool, I had looked at that site before but couldn't make heads from tails of it, BUT I looked at it again, cause you mentioned it, and NOWWW I understand.....235/75/15, just like everyone said....Thanks everyone.....

Ugghhh, no. An LR60-15 is a 60 series tire, so it can't be a 60 and a 75 at the same time. LR60-15 is not necessarily a specific width. It depends on the tire. It is definately an L load range, 60 series (sidewall height is 60% of section width) and it fits a 15 inch rim. These were the stock tires on many of the special edition trucks (Gentleman Jim, Indy Hauler etc...) and they were definately wider than a 235.
I've been trying to find a modern tire to replace them with, but there really isn't one. They were wide 60 series tires but all those trucks before about 80 or so had 7" wide rims, so I really don't think they were as wide a 275's. I think the stock LR60-15's were about a 265/60-15 by today's sizes and nobody that I've found makes that size.

Somebody is bound to know for sure. 1983 wasn't that long ago, least I don't think so... Then again, there are some on this board who weren't even a glimmer in their daddy's eye in 1983.... I'll email my brother-in-law, he's been in the tire business forever, he should know....
