First run at the track with the 598 blazer
So i had 20lbs tire psi in the drag radials, I launched at 2200, I spun for quite a ways, I shifted at 5000 rpms or so (shift light not hooked up), I let off before the traps. It ran 12.29 at 102mph with 60ft of 1.7 I know i need to adjust these shocks and get closer to my stall speed which should flash at 3500,I also need to run it up to 7500 shift light. I was pretty scared this being my first drive of any kind with this vehicle. Any advice would be appreciated.

Re: First run at the track with the 598 blazer
That smoke was a poor job of inspection on the deck surface on the block and leaking oil/coolant under the mls gaskets !!! pretty lame huh. thats why i only made 2 passes. I am replacing them with felpro hp head gaskets until i can teardown and deck block smoother.

Re: First run at the track with the 598 blazer
If you are running the M/T drag radials you can take them down to about 17-18lbs. If that doesn't work You can bring the motor up hard on the converter. Then drop the brake with out giving any more throttle. Once you feel it loose momentum start applying throttle. You have a bunch of ET left in that for sure. Do you have a dyno chart on the motor? Just asking because you mentioned taking it to 7500rpm. Very nice blazer! Nice light also for the 1st time out.

wow! what a great view to watch drag racing. I could sit there all day. I don't think you'll have a problem running 11.50's all day long.

Does your track have 1/8 timers? If so, what was your time/mph at the 1/8th?

Re: First run at the track with the 598 blazer
We do have 1/8 mile timer but I washed the time slip and cant tell you the number. I am going to try and use a sealer on the gaskets before I swap them out. The gaskets dont look like they had any coating applied at all. I wont be home until the first and then plan on fixing it and getting back to the track for some more test and tune. Do any of you guys running drag radials have any insight for me on burnout techniques or tire psi ? What kind of 60ft times are common for large inch engines and heavy trucks ?

Re: First run at the track with the 598 blazer
I think you have a lot more in it..
I run my 315/60/15 dr's at 20psi hot. They are on a 12" wheel. Lowering the PSI hasn't shown any improvements. Maybe that will change with the 418ci motor going in it, but had no problems with the 347 that is in it right now. I do have a 4.56 gear and a 4,900 rpm verter.

Re: First run at the track with the 598 blazer
They say to do an aggressive burnout for the first time each day then lighter the rest of the day. I would start about 16psi and add a 1/4 pound at a time till I lost 60 ft then go back to where I had my best 60ft.
