How Much should I pay for a 6.0 LQ9?
Just curious what some of you guys paid for your 6.0's. I've seen a couple on craigslist complete with all accessories. Some also offer the trans as a package deal. Seems like one guy paid $1000 for one, but it came to his house still installed on a van??
What's the going price for the motor, the trans, or package deal.

Re: How should I pay for a 6.0 LQ9?
New 6.0L motors range from about $3k or more for a longblock to $6k and more. I paid $2900 for a brand new '08 LY6 6.0L crate motor with all its manifolds and sensors. I sold a few pieces off so the cost actually came down to $2500.
Used 6.0's vary by year and mileage. '01 and later being preferable (earlier ones have iron heads and longer crank ends)...with prices from $1k and up for incomplete or higher mileage models... to $3k or more for a complete motor w/electronics, pedal, and harness. For those wanting slightly better fuel economy w/o needing all the hp they can get...a 5.3 is a good alternative and can make 300hp up to 450hp or more.

Re: How should I pay for a 6.0 LQ9?
Thank you for the info 68GMCCustom. I've seen a few floating around on CL for $3000 to $4000 for the motor and trans. I'm not ready for one yet, but if I could find one at a good price and it was complete I'd go ahead and buy it. I'm not too worried about the fuel mileage, but I most likely will end up doing the 5.7 swap in my '84 K10. The 6.0 is going to be for a GMC Jimmy project.

Re: How should I pay for a 6.0 LQ9?
If you can handle a little driving, I would troll the Dallas and Houston sections on Craigslist. There are tons of them floating around in Texas pretty cheap. Most wrecking yards around me sell the 5.3 with trans for around $1000-$1200 and the lq4 and lq9 for not much more. I bought mine in Mineola off a guy for $1000 with a 4l80e trans on it. The only thing I "need" is a pedal. Other than that I could drop it in. I'm not sure wether it's the lq4 or the lq9 tho, haven't pulled a head yet.

^ smokin' deal - that 4L80E is worth close to a grand if it's in good shape and ready to drop in.

Re: How should I pay for a 6.0 LQ9?
you can run the older automatic transmissions (turbo350 and 400, 200-4r/700-r4, etc) with an adapter...or the newer ones (4L60, -65, -70, and -80e, 6L80e and 6L90e, etc.) with the ECM/TCM controlling it.
the new LSx series motors can run older manual transmissions (T10, M21, etc) with adapters too... as well as the newer manual trannys.
