Classic Air Cleaner for LSx Motor

I wanted a more classic look for my air cleaner than the typical cone filters. My swap is a 2005 6.0 LS2 into my 65 fleet. So I built a plenum and used a standard 14" round air cleaner on top of it.

This is my first aluminum welding project so I tried to make it as easy to weld as I could.

Seems to work well, the truck is back on the road now.

Re: Classic Air Cleaner for LSx Motor

Oh, I forgot to mention that you need a filtered, measured, air line to feed the crankcase positive ventilation system. I added a fitting to the tube along the front of the induction. I safety wired the nut since if it came loose the result would not be good.

Thanks for the comment loC10.

Thanks Mac! I used a water cooled TIG torch running on a very old Miller Dialarc 250.

Re: Classic Air Cleaner for LSx Motor

I forgot I had these pics. This is the actual standoffs and mounting plate I used to gain hood clearance.

I also had to move the air cleaner further forward using this mounting plate in order to miss the rear hood cross member.

I used that fitting on the fuel rail to connect the fuel pressure gage you see in the finished pictures. It is nice to be able to see the actual fuel pressure when de-bugging. There is no fuel pressure sensor on these engines.

My only problem starting the engine was not having sense enough to purge the air out of the fuel rail using the schrader valve on the rail.
