Converting steel floor to wood
What is involved in converting a 72 steel floor to wood, besides the obvious stuff?

Re: Converting steel floor to wood
I'll start. Labor, you need a wood floor headgate and all the cross members including the main one on the rear. The cross members on a steel floor are attached to it, but are seperate and different for a wood floor.

Re: Converting steel floor to wood
Money
There's an angle piece available to weld onto the headgate, but wood, bed strips, cross sills and so on will run $1000 or so. I decided I couldn't lift the steel bed floor and didn't want to lift the bag-o-money so I still have the nasty pitted, holy steel floor... Try Mar-K in Oklahoma. There's an ad at the top of the page probably because the word bed is in the posts... |

My grandson is on a budget so he put plywood over the metal floor, stained it and coated it with a sealer. It will work ok for now and it looks ok. It just depends on what direction a person wants to go with their truck and the budget they have to work with.

Re: Converting steel floor to wood
If you can find an original wood bed for parts, you can save a TON of cash on the header panel and x-sills.
