should be driving my truck next week
hi guys
i joined a couple weeks ago but have been so busy fixing the truck up at night after work . been meaning to say hi and tell you about my truck . bought it 2 weeks ago up in northern oklahoma after seeing it in a yard parked up . the guy said he bought it from the previous owner telling him it had thrown a bearing or severly damaged the engine some how and unable to drive it for a year. after getting it to my work and checking underneath i noticed a starter bolt missing . then noticed the trans had come away from the engine about 1/4 inch . opened the inspection cover and discovered that the fly wheel had completly cracked and came away from the crank . what luck !!!! spent $58 on a new flywheel and fitted it myself . after sorting a glow plug problem out and putting two new batterys on she fires right up . replaced a u joint and did all the fluids , filters , belts , hoses , flushed radiator . will be getting slightly narrower tires soon . also plan on covering the seats , new carpet , and painting it . she drives really good for a 1 ton diesel truck but need to get the brakes serviced which im doing on monday . also asking firestone to check out the front end as i get a really bad wobble sometimes . ok here are some pics and ill post more as i progress with it . |

Very cool! Did the transmission come loose and break the flexplate?

Re: should be driving my truck next week
thats what im guessing . probably what broke the starter bolt too . the thread had broken off up inside the block . managed to get it out with a reversable drill bit . i was all ready to replace or have the engine rebuilt so was really lucky with the cheap easy fix .

I really like this truck. Please keep the low budget theme going on this one.

Re: should be driving my truck next week
Tow hitch off of a square body suburban won't work on the trucks, will they? If they will, I'll pull the one off my parts 'burb, you'd just have to come to Tulsa to get it.

Re: should be driving my truck next week
Yeah, the bumper on your truck looks like it would tow a tank! Would be killer if it were chromed.

Re: should be driving my truck next week
As far as the wobble you sometimes get, have you ever heard of death wobble? My truck is an 87 4x4 crew cab dually with a dana 60 front end and I just replaced the kingpin springs. I am not sure if it has fixed the problem, haven't driven it yet, having the wheels painted black. Anyway, what kind of wobble do you have?

Re: should be driving my truck next week
My quick guess is death wobble. Go to http://www.pirate4x4.com/tech/billav...pin/index.html I read through this and did a lot of looking before I tried to fix mine. Firestone will chearge the mess out of you, and you can change just the springs and bushings yourself cheap and pretty easy. I would try it myself first. Also if I were a betting man, the people at firestone have never heard of death wobble. Just my 2 cents.

Re: should be driving my truck next week
Death wobble is caused by incorrect caster setting, if I recollect correctly.
