Rear end update
Hey Guys,
Has anyone done an upgrade on the 83-87 truck rear end? I have the original single traction rear in my 87 Silverado and want to put a posi unit in. Can this be done by using a newer model rear or do I have to use my unit with a new set of gears. The truck has a 305 TBI in it and may put in a crate motor later. Only the right tire pulls and it has a roaring sound as you drive. Thanks for any help..

Re: Rear end update
To put a newer model (88-98) rearend under your truck takes a good bit of work, but it can be done...I did it to my old '87. You have to cut off the mounts on the newer rearend and put new ones in the appropriate location. You also have to cut off the shock mounts and relocate them too. If I had it to do over again, I would have just bought a new diff, R&P, and bearings and seals...it was a lot of additional work.
Hope that helps. |
