Chrome tow hooks?

Does anyone else own a set of extreme bend chrome? Just wondering how rare they are.

Re: Chrome tow hooks?

Not really any more rare than the regular 72 only hooks...at some point some one has had them chrome plated...they were never available from the factory that way.

Re: Chrome tow hooks?

I have a set of 67-68 chrome hooks. Speculation is they were for public use vehicles. (ambulance, fire truck etc...) Also, as far as i know the extreme bend hooks should both point the same way. Looks like yours point towards each other? Are yours listed in the glovebox?

Not saying your wrong (I have no idea) but why would they point the same way? Wouldn't that be a bit dangerous in a slightly off camber pull? Seems like they should point outboard for ease of hookup and to keep the strap in there...

Re: Chrome tow hooks?

All of the extreme bend tow hooks i have ever seen point the same way. I have seen quite a few also. I don't know why. I believe they are more open for ease of getting the chain/strap in/out. The 69-71 hooks point opposite directions.

No SPID. The PO swaped out the glovebox for a chrome faced one and couldn't find the original when I picked up the Blazer. Is there a No# possibly stamped on the hook? I'm going to pull them anyway and have a look see.

If I went to the GM dealer could they use the VIN# to look up the options?

Thanks for the help guy's.

I seem to agree with the direction, makes sense to be outward rather than inward.

Re: Chrome tow hooks?

I pulled one just to see if it may be stamped somewhere. These things are freakin awesome and heavy too. Just a light go over on the buffer:

I don't believe this to be true. I really think these came on the Blazer. I inspected the frame and bolts; the frame has new paint behind the washers.

I have to agree with blazerman on this one. And just to mess you up a little more, i don't think you could get tow hooks from the factory with a chrome bumper... I believe it was painted only.
And some had a symbol with a 7 digit part number, and some just had a symbol.
