Need help locating vin tag on 57

I need some help locating a vin tag on a 57 pickup my brother just purchased. we can't locate the vin tag. There is the trim tag on the door but that isn't the right vin tag. Is there a number on the frame we can look for?

vin tag should be on driver side A-pilar, It is also stamped on top of the frame on the driverside right in front of the steering box.

I've seen the vin anywhere from in front of the steering box to under the cab near the rear cab mount. But alway on the right side.

mine had it in both spots on the frame, but figured the one in front of the box would be the easiest to find. lol

That's were mine are too. one under the cab is "secret" in case the one on the frame in front of the steering was ground off by bad guys.

Re: Need help locating vin tag on 57

If the vin tag on the A pillar is removed, you're going to have a lot of trouble getting it registered and licensed. In AZ, i had a DMV guy come to the house to do the registration/vehicle inspection, as the truck didn't drive at the time. The frame vin matched the previous owners title, but the A pillar tag was removed and lost by the paint shop, ugh! The DMV guy said that the cab 'could' be from another vehicle, so he made me jump through the hoops of an AZ issued vin number and getting a surety bond prior to issuing a new title. Huge hassle!

Yeah i know, my brother was worried about that, here in jersey it isn't any easier. Right now we are trying to figure out if the title matches the truck. When my brother tried to get the title switched to his name the DMV told him that the Vin # is currently registered for another vehicle

Thats why its missing off the door. The PO probably sold the vin tag. You could push the DMV to investigate because you are the owner of that title and vin number if your frame number matches the title. They can un-register that other truck and get the vin back. But your paper work needs to be squeaky clean.
