Ram horn manifolds
What are ram horn manifolds? What are the advantages of them over stock manifolds? What are the advantages over headers?
I appreciate all the knowledge you guys are going to impart!

Ram Horn is just a name given to stock manifolds that curl up between the cylinders, rather than running straight across. The advantage over headers, is they last 30 years instead of 4. There have been some very good pics of ram horns on here lately. Did you do a search for them? You may well have them on your truck.

Here are ram horn manifolds. These came stock on all small block 67 - 72 GM pick ups 10 - 30 series.
They are the best flowing shape manifold, only being outflowed by the corvette ones and that is only a size deal. (the vette ones are also ram horns) These fit our chassis way better than the 'log' style manifolds too. They are better than headers becouse they retain more noise, they don't leak nearly as easily, and the earlier ones have better munting provisions than any adapter you can get on headers. However, if your headers are only lasting 4 years...even in the rust belt...then something is seriously wrong. |

Did the Vette looking Ram Horns ever come on a 66 and earlier V8 Chevy truck? I bought 65 and 71 Chevy trucks from a guy a couple of years back. The 65 had a set of ram horns that look just like the early 'Vette rams horns. I took them off before selling the truck and still have them. Anybody know if GM put the same looking exhaust manifold on the 65 as the 'Vette? I can't post a picture of them for obvious reasons(no attachments at this time).

The Vette ones had a 2-1/2" outlet. They may still be available from GM.

They still make the vette ones. Mine were cast in 2000 and 2001. Have pics in link in my sig for the "center dumps". Both the stock ones and vette ones.

So the vette ones have larger inlets than the standard ram horns? Will the vette ones fit our trucks as well and clear everything nice? If so and they are available form GM then does anybody have part numbers?

The pics in my sig should have had p/n as the file name. They fit 4x4s as for 2wd, I believe there is some interference issues with either one motor mount or the frame not sure which. This is for the center dumps straight down.

Ram horns actualy flow better than some of the cheap headers. I think it was Hot Rod that did a flow comparison 6 or so years ago.
