Car rear disc brakes donors

I find drum brakes tend to lock easier than discs and can be harder to modulate. With the light back ends on trucks I'd think discs would offer less opportunity for the back to lock up first. I can't recall on these truck if it's the case but a lot of drum brakes are self energizing which can be one of the reasons for poor modulation.
