Hood Problem
The hood on my 69 will not align against the cab. I pops up about 1/2 inch. I oiled the hinges & pushed down on it but it still pops up. Anybody know what causes this to happen. Could it be the springs?

Open hood. Hold in open position. Have someone loosen the rear two hinge to fender bolts and loosen the front one just a tad. Push hood up till the hinges rotate backward a bit. Tighten rear bolts on both hinges. Check alignment as you lower hood. 99-100 times, this adjustment will lower the rear of your hood without having to replace anything. Ever wonder why a set of old hinges with old springs have a perfectly adjusted hood till it is removed one time and then all of a sudden the "hinges are bad"? Hindges do get warn out but, in most cases by pushing the hood up when hinges are loose, you can leverage the hinge enough to get a perfect adjustment. LockDoc

Re: Hood Problem
it could be the springs, or it could be the rivit hoes being worn.
However, in all the but worst worn hinges, the trick above will work. I've done it many times. |

Re: Hood Problem
I've had them where the double rivet was just loose. I agree, the back of the hinge in a lot of cases is adjusted to high. I know this because it has kicked my butt in the past! Take your time and really look at the hood and angle of the hinge and adjust them a little bit at a time and you will get the alinement you are looking for. hope this helps. cheers, Pat

Re: Hood Problem
I have this issue on my 69, I adjusted the hinges til I was blue in the face, after that didnt work I replaced them from a truck with no issues but it didnt help. It turned out that the brace that the hinges bolt to on the hood itself is sprung. In order to fix it I am going to have to bend the brace in towards the hood.
This happened from the hinges not being maintained, when the hinges get stiff and you pull down on the hood it tweaks the brace. I lube the hinges on my other trucks all the time now! I hope you only have to adjust the hinges! Good Luck! |
