Bag a 4wd burb?

I've been looking at getting a '90 or '91 burb for awhile now and I really want one with four wheel drive. But I was wondering: is it harder to bag a 4WD than it is to bag a 2WD?

And what vendors do you guys like for air bag parts/kits? Thanks in advance and apologies for my ignorance!

Is the purpose to lower???? Or,to add versatility to the suspension?The problem with slamming a 4wd is the motor kinda gets in the way.The rear is no different than a 2wd.Even with IFS there's a differential and driveshaft to content with.

You can go down but only to a certain point. If you want a static drop there is a 4x4 drag truck that's lowered.

With Zing the frame or anything like that, you can do it to a small point but then you get into a lot of clearance issues with the drive shaft and what not.

Thanks for the answers! All I had planned was a mild 2" or 4" drop so it sounds like that should be easy.

I dropped my '67 c20 2/4 using coils and the thing rides like crap. Partly because I should have used drop spindles in the front and partly because it is a 3/4 ton truck and just has a rougher ride to begin with. My end goal with a burb would be to have a 4wd DD with kind of a pro-touring spin on it. That could also tow a boat/camper when needed. Damn, that sounds like a tall order when I say it out loud, doesn't it?

I really like a smooth ride that can handle well in the twisties. I realize that the burb's high center of gravity and heavy duty suspension is going to limit me, but if I can get it close to my goal I'd be happy.

I've never ridden in a bagged truck/burban. Is the ride quality better than a static drop? And is the imrpovement in the ride worth the incremental expense? (I'm assuming that bagging is more expensive than a static drop)

Since the 90 or 91 would have a solid axle you would have to Z the front... then you will problem run into driveshaft clearance issues as well as steering issues. Your other main issue will be the front differential clearing the oil pan. If you dropped in an Inline 6 you may be able to place the motor all the way to the opposite side to allow more room for the diff.

Yes the ride is better with a bagged truck than a static drop, but if you are looking at cost wise, it's not with the cost vrs the amount of work to make everything work right. If you want to lower a 4x4, I would get something in a later model and lower it.

I don't think you could easily lower a 4wd.The front leaves are already in a negative arch and only like 1" from the bumpstops.Also the crossmember is not very far above the front diff.

I guess you could fab a shorter crossmember,lose the bumpstops and french the spring hangers.Then you would still have the front drive-shaft hitting the starter.

You could lose the body bushings that would get the body down around an 1" or so.

This is an old build on an older model (67-72) but the same should apply to our squarebodies as well. air bagged solid axle 4x4

Not really. Have you ever looked at the front springs on a 4wd. They are negative arched already. If you have 2" less travel, your hitting the stops.
