Re: I scored!!!!
Chevy and GMC fenders are the same. The spot that WIDESIDE72 is talking about is for a 57 Chevy grill. If you use a Chevy fender or a new repo fender all you have to do is drill two holes to mont the grill extention or three if you are useing the filler below the signal. If you use a 57 fender the grill extention will cover the concave part.

Re: I scored!!!!
yea whatever they hit they tweaked the inner fender and fender pretty good...makes the truck look like its winking at ya.....I think I can bang the fender back out straight though. Thats good to know they are the same. I thought they might be but I wasn't sure...thanks for the info.

Re: I scored!!!!
Yea thats what I'm thinking might have happened. Tore the wood bed out today and found out the trans isn't even bolted down in the back..that expalins why the driveshaft is so crooked...it also has a "custom" mount. Will get some pics up soon.

Re: I scored!!!!
Cool! I cant wait to see a build on this one, it seems not many people like to bring them back to original.

Re: I scored!!!!
Here's some pics of the wonderful custom mounts! Pulled the valve covers off today and was suprised to see how clean it was underneath them. I thought it was going to be alot dirtier after I drained the oil out and could hear the sludge plopping into the pan..... I got some # off the heads. 3890462 A226 drivers side and 890462 C1 6. I have no idea what these #'s mean or if they identify anything.

Re: I scored!!!!
Sorry to poop on your parade, but that's a Chevy engine you have in there. That would account for the non-stock front mounts, but I am at a loss to explain the rear mount. A Chevy truck Hydramatic would still have the correct bellhousing mounts you need. Could you please post a pic of the bellhousing area?

Re: I scored!!!!
The transmission looks to be a th400. The 6 bolt rear output cover and the pan shape says TH400

Re: I scored!!!!
Yea man. Looks like your standard 350 small block, th400 combo. The th400 wasnt introduced untill i think '64. Gonna have to say its not the original trans and not the original motor. Most tranny pans had that "hydramatic div GM motor corp" stamp on them. Looks like the rear trans mount broke.
the TH in th350/th400/etc. stands for "turbo-hydramatic". Last edited by y5mgisi; 10-12-2010 at 02:31 AM. |

You are of course correct that the engines can still easily be identified by appearance, regardless of what the valve covers say. Ray |
