Is 65" wide rear end too wide?
I know the stock length is 62" but I have a 9" that's 65" flange to flange, is that too wide for a 55 second series truck?

Re: Is 65" wide rear end too wide?
My 4wd from the S-10 was 60" and I'm using 2.5" spacers.
That adds up to 65". I'm using 7" rally rims and the tires just clear the wheel wells. You would have to run a really offset rim if you used the rear end at 65" if your going for any width of rim/tire combo.. Once I get the wheel tubs in I can get rid of the spacers.

You can probably get away with it if you don't run reverse wheels but I'm not sure you would like the look.

I would be hard to turn down a 9" and it is only 1.5" over on each side. I'm not familiar with the 55 2nd and always thought it to be a bit wider than the AD but it would probably work if you're not running too wide a tire.

I'll measure with the bed on once I get the wishbone setup. I want to run 20x9.5" in the back but I don't think it will worK or will it?

Re: Is 65" wide rear end too wide?
The stepside bed is 73.5 inside edge to inside edge +-. If you use a 65" you may end up paying more for a custom wheels to get the off set for 20's. I'd take the rear and get it narrowed to 60" or so and add the large ford ends. My rear at 72" outer tire edge to edge on 32" tall tire will not lay down on the ground due to the fender curve. Not all Ford 9" rears are the famous 9".

Re: Is 65" wide rear end too wide?
I would need to shorten both sides by 2.5" to get to 60". How difficult is it to shorten if I was to try it?
I would then need to get new shorter axles with 5x4.75 bolt pattern? Tri5 |

Yes new axles will be needed.
I had mine done with the Ford large bearing ends and Strange axles for under $500. Just tell who ever does it to make it 60" flange to flange and let them worry about the math. |

Re: Is 65" wide rear end too wide?
My Ford 9" is 60" flange to flange and it fits 10x18 wheels with 30x12,5" tires just unter the stock fenders. I am using wheels with a +24mm Offset ( Torq-Thrust M ).

Re: Is 65" wide rear end too wide?
Does anyone know what the standard flange to flange axle width is for a 65 Chevy C10 pickup. I am trying to determine if my current 12-bolt differential is stock. Thanks in advance!

Re: Is 65" wide rear end too wide?
I get 56" backing plate to backing plate on a '65 rear end. Same as the original that came out from under my '56.

Re: Is 65" wide rear end too wide?
I pulled the rear wheels and the '65 rear end is 62" flange to flange. The numbers stamped on the rear will tell what year it is.
