Torque Converter Noise
I installed an aftermarket converter a few months ago. At speeds above 40 mphs, the converter starts to make a rattling noise. A friend of mine was told that sometimes aftermarket converters have to be shimmed into the transmission . He said the converter should have about 1/8 inch of travel.
I have had my motor in and out several times with the stock converter. I did not have to shim the stock converter. Has anyone else heard of this?

I'm sure you checked this already but are all of the bolts tight? I put an aftermarket converter in mine and we didn't have to shim. Any problems shifting?

All of the bolts are tight, we 3x checked them. There are no shift problems, yet.

Is the flexplate new? If not, have you checked it? I just pulled the flexplate out of my '93 Grand Am tonight because it was making a tapping sound at idle and at all speeds while coasting. "Piston" helped my troubledhoot the problem and he was right...... it was a cracked flexplate. Just a thought. You said yours was a rattling noise, so may be someting else.

Thanks for the reply Slammed. The flexplate is the same one that came on the truck when I got it. I will check it out.
BTW, your truck is sweet. I went to your site. Nice job. I am considering putting bags on the front because it is not low enough.
