Re: 53 IFS help
I talked to Scott D today. I've got a 1 ton and we are working out the modifications I have to make to use his kit. I already have most of the Metric suspension parts I need. It is still going to be a bit before I'm ready for any of the kits but I know I don't want to mess around with the '79 cradle that is welded in there right now!

Re: 53 IFS help
I did ALOT of research last night and found that with his crossmember you can use GM F-body or S-10 suspension parts that you can get at just about any parts house or wrecking yard and there is an abundance of aftermarket stuff available too. I calculated it out and found that I could do an ecomomical conversion and still keep it all GM for about 1/2 the cost. It will take a little bit of time and fab work but I can do alot with it since I have some S-10 suspension stuff already. Well, I am off to do some more research, will check back a little later.

Re: 53 IFS help
Here is a few pics of the body the day we picked it up. Thank god for the help of my friends, with out them I couldn't have done it. I chose to keep this one instead of the 50 burban due to the position, project wise that it was in. There is not an ounce of cancer on it. The frame is completely stripped down ready for paint/powder coat but first I need an IFS to put in it. It came with everything including a set of clamshell doors along with the barn doors that are in it. all the other parts are on a separate trailer that isn't pictured. We have since sanded down most of the body to bare metal and are gonna start the body work.
Here is a pic of the 50 burban that I am NOT gonna use.

Re: 53 IFS help
You will save money for sure that way.But the front track will be to narrow for your
truck. If you can post the total price you will have invested in the front suspension you are talking about all parts down to the rotors, arms ,etc.I would like to compare ours with yours. We have a great forum discount for members here. Justin |

Re: 53 IFS help
What are your options for a anti-sway bar and what size (dia.) are available?

Re: 53 IFS help
The Danforth crossmember is designed to be stock AD width. Just Google him or look on a few of the other sites, there is a lot of information out there.

Re: 53 IFS help
Thank you Dan. I Emailed Danforth about his product and he said any GM metric/ GM Fbody suspension even aftermarket stuff will work. This is sounding pretty good. I wonder if he has the same for a TF series truck as my friends would be very interested.
I googled his name last night& this morning and found an abundance of info on the HAMB and stovebolt.com thanks again all Posted via Mobile Device

1.Scotts suspension are built per order on what the customer wants. 2.Scotts frontends are built to any track width a customer wants. meaning wheel mount to wheel mount.Yes the Scotts frontends are wider than a mustang II style 3.Scotts frontends can be built to any drop the customer wants. 4.Scotts frontends are all custom built at a fair price for the quality you get and pay for PERIOD. Re: 53 IFS help
fabguy, I think you've done well on that 50. Clamshells are SO nice! The 51 probably would rank high around here in Michigan as rust is our best friend...

Re: 53 IFS help
Thank you Dan, I would have tore that one down (50 burban) but I don't have the heart too as it has an ORIGINAL truckstell or tip toe matic overdrive behind a 4 spd and still closed driveline. Excellent candidate for an original resto. It even has the original spare tire carrier & spare still in it. also has original spotlights, & fulton visor. I really hate to see it go.

Re: 53 IFS help
Justin, Thanks for your reply. I am going to use air ride all around and at ride height the truck will sit low. When the air is out of the system I want the boards on the ground. With that in mind the truck will only rise up 5 - 6" to ride height and have concerns about a 26 - 27" tall tire hitting the fender. I need to see how wide a M II is from WMS - WMS and go from there. I have more measuring, research and thinking to do.
