Re: 283??

I got a '62 283 builder from Craigs list. The block package (hot tank, bore, hone,.030 over pistons hung on re-sized rods, rings and bearings ran $800.
An old timer in the area did the heads for $550 using all new parts and installing hardened seats for unleaded gas. Misc items (cam and valve train, fuel, oil and water pumps set me back anther $300+/-.
This are great little engines with high tin content blocks and forged steel cranks. There's no replacement for displacement but for charisma you can't beat one.
