'71 C10. Here is a pic of the steering wheel currently in my truck. Can anyone tell me what I'm missing to get a horn cap put on it? I bought the truck like this and I don't know what brand of steering wheel it is or where to get parts to finish it off. The horn circuit works because when I touch the wire to the center nut the horn honks. Thanks for any help.

It looks to be a grant wheel to me. Sorry but we do not have them, but just about any parts store should have them. You can even order one with a Bowtie or GMC logo if you like. WES

you need the cap and the spring.

Yep looks like the same wheel (by Grant) that I have to put in mine. Looks like just the cap and spring (as mentioned) are all you need.

Ok I'll try to find those locally. One thing that I don't understand, however. When I touch the wire end to the small tab that looks like the wire should slide onto, the horn goes off. Is this normal? How do the cap and that tab interact?

Try lifting the isolator away from the wheel. You may just be making contact without the cap and spring. WES

What happened is the same thing that has happened to me twice now, the horn cap does not stay on the fiber washer, it has 3 dimples in the cap sides that snap over the fiber washer, eventually the spring pushes the cap off of the fiber washer the horn goes off, in my case it happened twice in the middle of the night! so after 2 replacement kits i gave up and my horn has been dissasembled ever since, naturally this was before i had the internet and i no longer had the packaging so i just said to hell with it. EDIT: The last fiber washer warped really badly and had edge cracks where the dimples were pushed over.

From what i understand grant may have re-engineered the horn kits they sell now because of this, but i have not checked into it, replacement horn kits last time i checked were about $80 but they do not include the horn cap.

Search Grant on google and check there webpage for the cap, and possibly call them and you may be able to purchase the cap.

Grant still has the same setup, I put one in in April and it is exactly the same fiber disc. Mine hasn't given me any issues. $80 sounds a little excessive considering I got my wheel and install kit for about $75 at summit, and there were some that were even cheaper. Let us know how everything works out! Oh yeah as mentioned above all you need is spring and cap.

Ok i was pretty peved to see the price for the kit.. i am guessing that the price musta went down or was miss marked every time i looked cause they were pricy, now about $25.

Looks like O'rileys also has replacement horn buttons too.
