So i was at Pick-n-Pull today doing some hunting. Found a stepside, same year even, as mine. Had a few little things i needed. Noticed the sway bar it had, so i pulled it. 20 bucks. Its a 1 1/16'' bar. Wasnt really thinking at the time about going to a 1 ton bar. My truck does not have a sway. Is it going to be worth the 1/2 ton bar install?? Or should i just forget it and go with a 1 ton?

Yeah, so i guess i blew it. Going to be taking back the 1/2 ton bar tomorrow and searching for a 1 ton. Should have known in the 1st place. Unless someone has a good argument to keep it.....

It all depends on your style of driving and where you drive. The 1/2 ton bar is better than nothing, and if you are not canyon carving or auto crossing it may be sufficient. I have no idea what the roads around Hollister are like so use your best judgement. Jay

Thanks. Pretty much what i thought. Something is better than nothing. But yeah, got some pretty awesome backroads around here. And not trying to im going to drive it like a race car, but it would be fun for it to handle. So back to the j/y tomorrow for the 1 ton.

Make sure you get all the brackets too. And go with something other then rubber bushings. It will stiffen it up more. This is one case where bigger is better, but smaller is not worse. Its all a upgrade.

Ha! been waiting to hear from more members. Yeah, totally going with the bigger 1 1/4'' bar. think i might have found one too. Kinda wasted the 30 bucks on the 1 1/16'' and mounts already. Cant return it, no refunds! So if somebody wants it........ But already have the Energy Suspension bushings and mounts ready to go. And already looking for a Camero rear sway bar. Think it will help alot. Dont want to get too ahead of myself with sway bars before i lower the truck.

the front one you will have no problem with if you lower your truck after.as for the back one. i have no idea haha

My '78 had none...I found the biggest suburban i could find...got the 1.25" front bar, and energy suspension bushings...
Don't bother undoing the rivets to get the sway bar brackets at the junkyard...get some aftermarket ones from a vendor...getting the rivets out to get the brackets off, just isnt worth it.

Yup, not sure either. Im guessing the only thing that will change would be the angle of the bar and the end link lengths. And thats just a guess, still need to look into it.

I like the bigger bar!! My truck can take a curve really nice. The tires give before the truck sways deep into a curve.

So i got the 1 1/4'' sway bar. And for pretty much nothing from a friend of mine. Took it to work and bead blasted it. Sprayed on a nice coat of black. And the mounts were bolted on not riveted so i got those cleaned up too. Just picked up the Energy Suspension bushings for it also. Cant wait to get it on the road and see how it does!!

No street performance tire for sure. I'm running 255/60R15 BF Goodrich tires. They are only temporary. Eventually, I'll upgrade to street performance tires for traction. The weight of the truck pushes out if I take a curb to fast.

I can feel the polygraphite bushings, large sway bar and traction bars hold and push so the tires give way.

Good to know. Im running 255/50r17 Nitto Envos all around. Supposed to be pretty damn good for grip. But we will see.
