Why is my motor bogging down?

I have a 1986 chevy silverado 305 or 350 motor with turbo350 tranny! And when I'm going about 65 down the highway and gas on it. It seems like it sputters or bogs down very fast and many times. And it makes my truck speed up slow down speed up slow down

Re: Why is my motor bogging down?

First check the state of tune plugs, wires, cap, rotor. then check for clogged fuel filter then check for fuel pressure if you have'nt found after all that try a known good carb, to rule out clogged jets or intermedite curcuits. Also put a vac gauge on it run it to duplicate the problem and watch the vac to see if it drops that would indicate a clog in your exhaust system. Jim

I would start with the fuel filter, then plugs cap and rotor which never hurts unless you have recently replaced them. Also if you know where a good reliable carb is it would be easy enough to switch and test.

Re: Why is my motor bogging down?

Poor some menthal hydrate in the tank. Might be water in the gas aswell. My 86 305 would bog and sputter and be screwy untill I poored some in then its was good after that. Its had sat for quite a while before I got it and the cat was rotted inside aswell cut that out and made big diff aswell. Couple suggestions to try also.

Re: Why is my motor bogging down?

A failing EGR valve on a carbed engine can do weird things
