Is there any links to info on how to do this? I am starting research on fixing up my 57 gmc and would like to do this. Is there any threads that do a good job demonstrating the process? What are the key words?

This thread started by Lux Blue on the HAMB is what a lot of guys internet wide are using as a reference right now and it is easy to follow. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/s...d.php?t=148978 It pretty well walks you through the whole process on a chassis similar to yours.

This is what a friend of mine did to his 57,I'm going to redo my 53 just like it as I did it the first time like the Nolimit and this looks safer in my opinion

Hi Guys, I'm also grafting a camaro clip on my 56 GMC, after buying the no limit DVD & reading all the posts & builds I could find, I decided to go the Lux blue (hamb) way & slide it underneath, mainly because it looks easier for my capabilities.
Anyway I stripped the front off yesterday only to find that the GMC has a different radiator support & mounting location. It has a cradle around the radiator & mounts in the forward center of the front crossmember, not on top of the frame rails like the chevy does. That has kinda thrown a spanner in the works because I had it all planed out & I dont have any info on how it can be mounted on the camaro subframe?
I hope I havent hijacked this thread but I thought any info would be relevant to the OP seeing he also has a GMC.

ps Indian 113, your buddys frame you have posted looks awesome, I hope when I'm done mine will look as good!

Indian = Man that looks sweet looks 100 times better and simplier than the other ways I have seen done.

Thanks Coronas56, I did post the question on Hamb & info is coming through nicely. Probably a must read for anyone that is planing on a f/body clip for a 55-57 GMC, a significant difference on rad support mounting than a chevy.

Just did this a few months ago. Its really easy, just measure a million times and cut once. The laying of the subframe under the truck frame is by far the recommended way for people who don't attempt fab work often. Doesn't look the best but I plan on boxing it in and dressing it up to look better. Plus if you plan on laying frame it gives you something to drag instead of your truck cab.

With that said you can't even see it unless you plan on putting mirrors under your truck LOL.

i guess you can say i did but are main goal was to look like the frame was made like this in 1955 if you know what i mean to we just shape the camaro clip back into the 55 frame giving me a real slick frame and then builky crossmember.

One of my running buddies has done a number of the Camaro/Firebird subframe swaps quite similar to Indian113 on 55/59 trucks and the guys who have them are pretty happy with them. They may not have the glamor of some front suspension setups but are solid and reliable when set up that way.

A friend of mine in town here did one and he cut the frame out and mounted the subframe level with bottom of the frame. It is on a 50 AD,loooks like it will be really low.If Ican get a chance I'll try to take a picture of it.

I did mine like in the pics. Took me a weekend to finish it by myself. Plus this way it gives it a small z so it sits a little lower.

please tell me what yr of vehicle did the sub frame come from, i have a 52 pickup and i have a 86 camero subframe but not sure if it will work

70-81 Camaro-firebird but might be a little wide. 86 won't work its part unibody I guess you would call it.
You might be ok with 1st gen or late 60 early 70s nova.
