If you wear less that a 44 in the waist don't bother
The steering column that came with my truck is not stock it looks like it came out of a vehicle that had and automatic tranny that was column shift. Since I have upgraded my stock 6 pack abs with a built for comfort aftermarket 24 pack gut it gets tight in my cab. Have any of you guy's shortened your steering column to accommodate an ever growing beer belly?

http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=309895 Here's a write up with some info on shortening the steering shaft, if you do a search there are several threads on this, and I believe there's a write up in the FAQ section.

I actually got around that very minor detail by putting a grant steering wheel on.. It's
15" in diameter as suppose to a 17" original wheel. |

I will look into that Cisco, being 6'2" and 389lb every little bit helps. I am relocating the the fuel tank also.

From the FAQ's:
http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...=191143&page=2 start at post 41. I'm about your size and installed a 13" Grant wheel with a 2" dish and shortened the column. In the future I'm going to lower the seat frame.

Cadillac and Olds, as well as Buick, had a Tilt and Telescope steering wheel/column. Wonder if anyone has ever installed one of those?

Corvairs too. Not tilt, but telescopic. Optional I think from 1965 up. Kind of hard to find and pricey because they share parts with the Vette columns. The overall shape seems similar to our truck columns and the woodgrain wheel and hub are sharp looking.
As for lowering the seat, I think you'll like it. My 72 came with some other brand of bench seat. Sat really low. I swapped in a stocker from a parts truck and tossed the other. I miss it. I feel like I'm sitting too close to the roof now. |
