cutting steering/bump stop bracket

i have about three inches between my upper control arm and the bracket. the bumpstop has already been removed but it hits on everything. can i cut off all or some part of this..or has anyone done this. the coils are cut, not sure how much, but i was planning on cutting another little amount to get about an inch lower. so any input?

sounds like you're already running out of suspension travel... to loose some more?

i took the brackets that hold the rubbur bump stop completly off. if you clean around them they are just spot welded. it gave me alot more travel but on big dips on the fwy i do hit my trans member once in a while. and this is how she sits at all times. i hope thats what you were askin

On my 65, I cut my bump stops with no issues. I also cut coils off the springs too. The more you cut off the springs the lower the stance and the worse the ride. It rode like the suspension was rigid.

At the end of the day, I put bags all around on that truck. It was worth the little time it took to put the bags in and the ride was like a Caddy!!

You can get rid of them. Some people cut only the bumpstop support and leave the steering stop; I drilled all the spotwelds and gave it a wack with the hammer/chisel and they popped right off.

You can relocate the bumpstop to the coil spring pocket, right on the corner, if you still want to run one.

mine sets the same as yours.....you might have a slightly smaller tire

I also cut mine off, and ground off the welds. I have coil springs, no air bags.

Right on guys thrnks for the info. All the trucks on this post look bad ass. As far as the ride I'm ok with the poor quality for right now, this is all for fun anyway. Drop spindles is on my wish list, but not too high. And bags would be great I just need more knowledge and $$. Appreciate the info!
