steering alignment
Sorry if I don't know the exact term. But on a 77 1/2 tun steering is the longest bar that connects to the tie rods and the pitman arm that is in the middle supposed to be perfectly centered between the frame rails? Sorry if this is a stupid question but I am having all sorts of trouble.

Yes you can align it at home if you know what you're doing so that is an incorrect blanket statement. But, yes the center link should be centered under the truck and both the pitman arm and idler arms should run parallel to the frame when the steering is centered.

Sort of what you are looking for...
I have an auto crossing friend, and an ex GM mechanic friend that have aligned the front ends on my cars. These dudes do a better job with a tape measure than most of the clueless front end techs today. You can probably get it close enough to drive it someplace, or just be patient and be prepared to spend a little time on it, if it's your first time, you can do it. |
