big bolt and coe question- anybody help please?

Ok- might be kind of a long one but I really need to get some info- I bought a 53 Chevy cabover- but the previous owner lopped it off a couple feet behind the cab, so it's really a cab and front clip I guess. My question is, will this fit the chassis of a standard big truck from the same era? I bought it cause I've always wanted one and rarely see them for sale and thought that putting it on a modern chassis would be the way to go, but now I think I'm changing my mind. One and a half ton trucks with the regular nose are readily available in my area- there are several on the local craigslist right now, and usually pretty cheap- like 500-900 bucks, sometimes just for the asking. Anyway, thanks for reading and thanks in advance for setting me straight- fourspeed

Here's a couple pics just because I know someone will ask. It used to run spuds in central WA until a couple years ago. I pulled the engine cover and found somebody had swapped in GMC six, I just haven't found the numbers to know which Jimmy it is.

Re: big bolt and coe question- anybody help please?

Putting early COE cabs onto later chassis, seems to be quite a common swap.
I suppose it's all down to your abilities as a fabricator.

The COE cab mounts to a frame which is in turn attached to the chassis, although whether the chassis is the same as the low cab of the same era,I'm not entirely sure.....
I would love a COE too but the Missus would kill me!

There's a guy called Kiwiwilly in the Stovebolt,he frequents the BigBolt subforum and has done a late model swap.
It looks to be quite a challenge but the end result is well worth it!
Good luck.

Have built a 55 COE myself , (5500) put a long wheel base step side bed on it used it for a tow truck - I sold it - it now resides in Selmer TN. The guy drives it everyday I am told.Wished I had it back - I have also seen one( 54 I think- had a one piece windsheild )put on a bread truck chassis - late with a 4bt cummins, 700r4 and all - it hit the road very well - if you can stand the sound of the cummins. IT WILL BE COOL REGUARDLESS. LMD

I didn't see this until now but I have a 1-1/2 ton sitting here that I can measure and I'm about 12 miles down 97 from you. You might look at older 1 ton based motorhome frames too as I think some guys have put cab overs on those.
