I guess because not too long ago, 6 lug wheels were just plain not available or uglier than a mud fence. Since like the late 90's GM has put 6 lug back on the new trucks. now you can get 20's from a Tahoe and run them on our trucks, they are alot cheaper than those fancy Billet wheels. I like the look of the 15X8 Rallye wheels, so that is where I am at, I would buy some if I could get some 17" Rallyes, but they would be very expensive if someone made them. There are some wheel manufacturers out there, but I havent seen the truck rallyes in 17" yet.

It is really up to you, I would definately change to power disc brakes though, much, much safer.

Switching to 5 lugs was originally the only way to get disc brakes up front. But now you can get aftermarket 6 lug rotors to fit the '73-'87 spindles, or you can also do it using OEM parts. Here's a thread that explains a lot of the ins and outs of the swap whether you go 5 lug or 6.

If I had to do it all over, I would change to 6 lug discs. It just wasnt available when I did my suspension in 2000. You can pick up some larger wheels from a newer truck now that will look great and serve your purpose at a lower cost that the billet and other chrome fancy wheels.

I know a guy who spent more on his wheels and tires than he did on his whole truck, over $4000.00 on wheels alone, man what I could do with that$. But it is his money, he can do what he likes.

I always see beaters with nice wheels(usually 22's). Cracks me up. I appreciate your input about the conversion too. I am definately trying to keep the cost down.

Took the bed off and refinished the frame. replaced trailing arm bushings and shocks. Took a 350 out of a 75 burb and it is at the machine shop now. Rebuilding the front suspension from the burb to get the front discs.

I'll try and get pics when I get home.
