gas pedal
Does anyone know of a quick modification to add a floating gas pedal in a 68 C20....I am trying to gain a little extra foot room and getting rid of the pedal attached to the floor would help out.......

I dont know a quick way,but I converted my 69 to floating peddle/cable. it involved cutting a pc of the firewall,& welding in a pc from a 71(gas peddle mount),then drilling a hole for the cable. Done the hard way for sure, but well worth the time....69 longhorn.

I'm in the process of switching out my '68 accelerator ass'y for a '72-style. Not as simple as I thought. The 3 screws are spaced differently, so my friend -the welder- is gonna make me an adapter plate to bolt up to the firewall from the inside. Then we need to drill a 5/16th hole in the firewall for the cable to pass thru. I have a 4 Bbl Holley 4160 on an Offy intake for an L6 292. Since the carb sits sidesaddle to its (normal) V8 orientation, I have to come from the right side, over the valve cover to get a straight pull. The old Rube Goldberg relay-rod/bellcrank set-up won't get WOT and is worn to the point of imminent failure.
I have the parts. Tomorrow is the day! ------------------ Every 25 years I like to rebuild that 292, whether it needs it or not.

Yeah, my buddy's nuts, but I hang out with him anyway. He's duplicating the plastic spacer, p/n 3993089 (?) out of 1/16th sheet steel and 1/2" tubing, because it amuses him. Then we will braze weldnuts to the base of the fabbed part to take the '72 ass'y and shoot outboard mounting holes to mount the whole gizmo to the '68 firewall. I'll try to shoot polaroids and scan it.
