GM Parts Giant Won't Ship to Canada --- need ideas!
Hi,
I just got off the phone with GM Parts Giant and they won't ship to a Canada address....which sucks because I need $700 in parts from them that will cost me $1,500 to buy locally up here. Are their any other well known suppliers in the United States I can use? Any other ideas?? Thanks!!

Re: GM Parts Giant Won't Ship to Canada --- need ideas!
What about purchasing them from GM and having them shipped to a friend in the norther states where you can pick them up and take them home?
Maybe a member here could do it...

Re: GM Parts Giant Won't Ship to Canada --- need ideas!
I relayed some parts to a guy in BC by shipping them to a UPS retail location in Washington state, so he could pick the shipment up there.
Edmonton isn't anywhere close to the border so I don't know if this would work for you. Depends on how much you want the parts, I guess. Last edited by D.FENS; 01-04-2011 at 05:03 PM. |

I'm about 500 miles north of the US border in Edmonton, I could drive to get them in Montana but it is a 2 day trip there and back when the weather sucks. I will look into all possibilties!

Re: GM Parts Giant Won't Ship to Canada --- need ideas!
there should be a place at one of the boarder towns that you can have it shipped to and then they'll ship it to you
I used to drop stuff at a storage/shipping place in sumas and they would ship it to kamaloops for me then I'd pick it back up there and it didnt cost that much more doing it that way

Re: GM Parts Giant Won't Ship to Canada --- need ideas!
GM...and many other companies do not allow their dealers to sell to out of country customers.
I have used Montana Shipping Outlet ...they are good. Some dealers will not even take a Canadian credit card even for a usa ship to address;you have to send them a draft. Even having someone down there resend an item can be expensive...you have brokerage fees etc ..UPS really nails Canadians. Best option is to find someone who goes to Great Falls shopping....last time we were down there were more Alberta plates than Montana ones. |

Re: GM Parts Giant Won't Ship to Canada --- need ideas!
I use Percy Davis as a customs broker. Have the product shipped to them on the US side. Then Percy clears the package and will ship it to you from the CDN side of the border however you want.
Set up your account with Percy first, then purchase the product with Percy's US address as the ship to address. Then Percy takes care of the rest. Their brokerage fees are cheaper than UPS. Percy will bill you any of their fees and then the GST and duty and the shipping to get it from the border to your door. I have done quite a bit of importing over the years for work. I really hate how a lot of companies (like the GM dealer you priced parts at) use the brokerage, exchange and shipping as a profit centre. It doesn't cost 2x as much to get stuff over the line, but you'd be surprised how many businesses do that.

Re: GM Parts Giant Won't Ship to Canada --- need ideas!
How far from the boarder are you? I go to buffalo all the time and have my parts shipped to my hotel. Once I had 14 boxes waiting for me. They were a little ticked at the amount of space. I call them first to let them know.
I'm heading there on the 29th if I can help. |

Re: GM Parts Giant Won't Ship to Canada --- need ideas!
i agree with oldblue81. it is rediculous trying to get parts into canada and unfair. i use a broker in B.C called sea-wings. they have a depot in Blaine Washington. i get the parts delivered to Sea-wings in Blaine and then sea-wings ships it to the airport here in Victoria. there must be a customs broker closer to you in alberta somewhere.

Re: GM Parts Giant Won't Ship to Canada --- need ideas!
Thanks for all the ideas and offers!! I am going to contact the Montana brokers tomorrow and see what they say.
It just bugs me that we pay double on automotive stuff here (even if it is made in Canada) and second we get dinged on broker fees and outrageous shipping to cross stuff over the border. Where is our "free trade"???? I will post what I find out for anyone else trying to do the same thing....I might PM somebody if I need something too, thanks in advance!!

First of all, what kind of parts? There are plenty of part sources out there.

The gaskets, switch and sensors in a 4L80E tranny. I can buy it all here no problem for $1,600 ---- I rather pay $750 USD since we are at par on currencies right now. Plus, I'd like to order all the parts on Menace's thread & Glock's parts list for the swap.
