Why no Hood Options
I am having a real hard time locating a usable 62-66 hood in my area. I have heard to stay away from the pin only fiberglass hoods. But there was one company I found on the net that had a fiberglass hood that looked decent. It had metal supports molded in for the hinges and was pin only on the front. I cannot seem to find it again. Can anyone point me in the right direction?
Thanks in advance. |

Found this one online here in Utah too, pretty cheap, but still comes down to getting it to Florida. I am not the seller nor do I know him but let me know if I can help.

Re: Why no Hood Options
It's too bad Goodmark or someone else doesn't offer a steel reproduction hood. I looked at dozens of hoods for 7 years before buying the only one I ever found worth bringing home. It wasn't even the model I really wanted, but every other "for sale" hood I looked at included extensive rust, dents, warped or twisted perimeter, or has the top was caved in.
I believe US Body Source used to sell a fiberglass bolt on version, but their current web listing only shows a race weight version, and I've read a lot of bad press about customers unhappy with poor fit and quality. |

Re: Why no Hood Options
I bought a fiberglass front fender from US body source about 12 years ago and it was terrible so I sold it. Hopefully they got better since then. I just got two inner fenders from goodmark and they are so bad the body shop wouldn't use them. They are half an inch too short, the hood hinge bolts are in the wrong spots and the front mounts are wrong. I don't know if they are going to take them back because the body shop welded up the misc. holes before fitting them. I may use them on another truck and modify them myselfs and be aggravated during it.

Re: Why no Hood Options
I'm in the same boat trying to find a decent hood. Or for that matter finding a hood period around my area.

Re: Why no Hood Options
Maybe buy a parts truck and sell off everything but the hood?

Re: Why no Hood Options
I guess I'll just deal with the hood I have for now until I find a better one. I have about 5 pounds of fiberglass on the hood that I'm sure will fail eventually. I will just deal with it when it does. Besides, I'm not going for a show truck. Just a mean looking shop truck.
Thanks for the all the replies!! |

Re: Why no Hood Options
I think the problem with the aftermarket is that the hood is a more complex part with a few different stampings and assembly; same with the bedsides for our years of trucks. It seems the fender is about as complex as they want to get.
Lunchbox1019.......just keep looking and keep some $$'s available and eventually one will pop up; I see them around this area periodically.

Re: Why no Hood Options
My 60 Chevy had the 62-66 hood on it and at one point I really dodnt like the 60-61 hood but then I seen a picture of one on a truck that changed my mind about the 60-61 hood. So I began to search for one....I live in Va and I searched all over VA and NC to just find junk. After 15 years I finally found one on eBay that was in Chicago Il. and it had been in storage for 30 years and was almost excellent. I won the auction for $350 and drove all the way to Chicago to get the hood. Dad said I was crazy but hey...I finally got one that doesnt need much at all.
