John - did you see this one for sale in your neighborhood. At first, I thought you were selling just as you finished it.

Re: 1972 Jimmy Build begins
Just got back from The San Juan Islands on the boat. Saw 12-15 Killer whales just outside Roche Harbor. Very cool.
The undercarriage is staying basically unrestored to be a nice driver. We degreased the front cradle and frame area and then painted it black. Bouncy, I did see that Blazer and I do not think the Jimmy will be sold. I kept telling my brother in law Steve that I wanted it back! It really is coming out nice. I need a factory turbo 350 dipstick and filler tube. Anyone in the Clackamas, OR area know who can build a nice 3 core radiator? |

I saw that one too and thought it might be the same one. But I knew you hadn't posted it as done yet. I still think yours looks way better John.

A couple late nights after work and we have it running! The core support is now in along with RH fender.

Re: 1972 Jimmy Build begins
Hey John, one thing I have never got quite right restoring these trucks is the heater/a/c under hood box, what did you guys do to clean it and make it have that fresh fiberglass look? Thanks Trevor

Re: 1972 Jimmy Build begins
Trevor,
Just soap and water on this one. Some times they still have the factory coating and sometimes I spray them with a satin/matte finish. Gloss is too shiny. John |

Re: 1972 Jimmy Build begins
Can not believe it has over a month since my last update. Most of the interior is in, drivers fender. Work and fishing have taken the front burner!
It moves under it's own power. Need a final brake bleed, hood, glove box door, tailgate and cowl installed. |

Re: 1972 Jimmy Build begins
So it got slow at the office, so from PM'ing you back I went straight here.
Even for a DD, I think its too nice of a build. I keep waffling what to do with my 71. Whether to do a rough cleanup and call it good and enjoy using it? Or make it new again so I can shock the heck outta my dad. I'm thinking short term just fix whats needed, and use it as-is, make it perty and shiney like yours/your bro'in'law's later. Mine will never be a DD again, more of a toy than anything. I have my four banger cars for DD status. We should get a local get together this summer. A friend of mine who isnt into forums has a really schnazzy 69 Blazer, and he and I are thinking about some mild offroad (no crazy crawling) excursions for wow factor of whover we pass. Erik |

Re: 1972 Jimmy Build begins
Great looking build! Did you recover the original seat frames or order a new set, and if so where can a guy find original style seats for these things?
I bought a '71 with late 80's model seats installed, but want to put original style equipment back. |

Re: 1972 Jimmy Build begins
Thanks for all the compliments! We are patiently waiting for some warmer weather to get it done.
I have a set of the original seats recovered, but the shipping would kill the deal. We recovered the original seats that came with it. |
