Gas Pedal/Cable
Hey guys,
Is anyone running a different gas pedal with a cable rather than the stock rod system? I'm thinking about installing a kit that I found on eBay similar to a Lokar pedal. Any pictures, experiences, pros/cons would be greatly appreciated Thanks, Tony http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1954-...#ht_3714wt_949 |

Re: Gas Pedal/Cable
Just my .02 my buddy got an RPC billet looking pedal assembly and it is very sloppy in the actual joint that mounts to the firewall. The pedal moves almost 1/2" side to side. I don't know about the Lokar ones, but it looks similar to the RPC as well. That's the only reason I brought that up. I just got started putting a stock 71 pedal in my '64 and it looks like the mounting surface is just a little too wide. I like the feel of the factory hinge pedals myself so I'll make it work. Just giving some input on other options out there

Re: Gas Pedal/Cable
I took the cable assembly and gas pedal along with the mount aparatus on the engine off a 1990 chevy truck and it works perfect. Easy to mount and hookup. Personally, i think the cable is way better than a mechanical rod or lever system.

Re: Gas Pedal/Cable
This gas pedal assy came from a 1990 chevy truck. It's totally self contained. The original pivot arm and shaft from the 1960 is removed. The 90 bolts directly to the firewall and 3 bolts hold it there. You'll just need to drill the firewall. Also, the cable goes right through the firewall (you'll need to make a hole) but it's very flexible and you have lots of extra cable and put it through where you want. There is a hard rubber/plastic fastener on the cable you push into the hole you make and it secures the cable there. As far as fastening it to the carb, there are many ways you can do this. Just need an anchor point somewhere on the engine. I just fabbed a bracket and used an intake bolt to secure it and then fastened the cable to it just behind the carb and just attached a small spring. This works very smooth. The pitch of the main rod is different than on the 90 and you need to bend it. It sticks up about a foot from the floor if you don't bend it, but bend it slowly. I got carried away and bent it too quickly and it broke, had to weld it back. Also, the pedal it's self does not attach to the floor only to the pivot bracket with the 3 bolts, and i think thats a better deal than the old ones. Anyway, it works great and junk yards are full of em. The unit has an adjustable arm where it attaches to the carb. You can do the entire install in about an hour or less. Hope this helps
