Cab fitment

I stayed after work today to test fit my cab & found that it hits the tranny on the pinch weld.I dont remember reading any posts about anyone running in to this problem, Just curious what you guys are doing w/ it.My cab is a '72w/ a 4l65e 3 deg. down,SD crossmember w/ ls mounts & just removing the pinch weld wont be enough,might need to modify the trans tunnel. Any suggestions?

I originally thought I was going to have that problem with my '68 and a 200-4r...but then I wound up changing form the ECE mounts to a combo OEM/TransDapt setup which moved the motor forward some...and cured my problem.

I used the ECE mounts and had zero fitment issues. I even have a low hump cab. Is the 4l65 that much bigger than the 4l60?

I'm using one of those aftermarket crossmembers that is already made for a ls & it doesnt use adapters.I'm gonna call suicide doors today & see what they have to say about it.
The 60 & 65 use the same case

ECE mounts place the engine farther forward, just ahead of where a sbc should be. Sounds like your mounts place it closer to the 6cyl position. How does the front of the motor line up with the crossmember mac? 1" Over, 1" behind, etc.?

I'll chk. today.Called SD yesterday & they told me that they use a high hump when they do them.I think I'm gonna have to change my coil location also,I had planned on the back of the head mounts but I dont see it happening now.

I tried mine it that location and decided it was going to be too much work (right now - as no bodywork other then filling the fuel hole is planned) and placed the motor 1" behind where a sbc should be. Yours is more like 4+" behind (I'm guessing here / -1" plates with motor mount stands in the 6cyl location).

I'd like mine to be in that location for handling/balance and traction reasons...just don't have the time or funds budgeted for that kind of mod right now. Might do it when I start paint and body in a year (gotta let bank acct recover ) or so.

I mounted mine (4.8 truck motor and 4l60e) in the 6 cylinder position with "universal" adapter mounts and used a just a little persuasion with the good old ball peen. Painted it up and, worked just fine and didn't hurt a thing.

I have mine in the 6 cyl location using pol tubular mounts with adapter plates. Even with a 4l80e I have plenty clearance with a low hump.

LOL Thats a POS monster truck I did some work on but the guy cant pay his bill!So there it sits. It does have one hell of a mtr. in it tho.The rice & canes are out back ,the little tires just let me get it in the bay!& yes I can personally attest it will pull wheelies!

Well I'm not up to speed on the no hump,low hump,high hump thing but My cab is actually a 72 & would not clear so I ended up putting a high hump in it & it just barely has enough clearance.My floor never had a removeable hump & pinion angle might have a little to do w/ it.Thanks for everyones input

I think it has something to do with the drop member placing your motor higher.
