Does anyone make a reasonably priced electric fuel pump that siphons? My fuel tank bung is in the top of the tank with a pickup tube which seems to be a problem for most electric fuel pumps. I could run a mechanical pump but I'm trying to keep the engine bay as clean as possible.

72 C-10, 454, carbed, 550-600hp, auto, not a race truck... if it matters.

Keep your electric pump as close as possible to the tank and the inlet of the pump level with or below the level of the pick up in the tank. I've used Mallory fuel pumps for years without any problems

I don't think ANY of them will pull up and over the top- mounted outlet very well.The Mallory 90 and 140 'will' but it's a really BAD idea. Biggest issue is it will want to siphon back into the tank when sitting and you have dry pump startup. That will gaul the aluminum pump housing BIG TIME. Thats why the want it to gravity feed to the pump so it is wet and cooled instantly.

I've been running a holley blue pump for years. Im using the stock tank on the drivers side in my 84. The pump is mounted on the passenger side frame rail. I have hard time from the tank across the crossmember. About 12 inches of hose down to the pump then -8 up to the carb. Never have had an issue with it. Drove it daily for quite a while.

I may just install a Holley blue and see what happens. It's mostly a show truck so it won't ever have many miles on it. Maybe the pump will hold out for a lifetime.

I wasn't even sure an electric pump would draw any fuel at all with my configuration.

I was reading a related article on a f*rd site, and the OP mentioned having spoken to Walborough reps; who stated that 6-12" of draw to the pump is still considered safe.

With the fuel cell sitting so low in my truck, mounting the pump below the tank becomes VERY tough.

But does Walbro even make a fuel pump intended for carb applications? I know their FI pumps will pull a LONG ways even with 3/8" line. But I thought the FI pumps regulated down to 8psi was a disaster looking to happen?? I have a external Walbro pump on my FI el Camino and they are a VERY fine product. Just never heard of anyone using one in place of a 80GPH+ carb application.

You cant regulate down from fi pressures to carb pressures. They flow what they flow at high pressure. By the time you got the pressure down to 6-7 psi from 50-60psi there wont be any volume left

the electric pumps work great in tank or not my holley blue is noisy but does a good job and pumps out of the stock tank you need a regulator

I spoke to a Holley tech and he tells me that any of their pumps will draw to the pump fine but if I can't get the pump below the pickup (or very close to) then I'll have issues with heat and prime (pretty much what cooter said earlier). It will draw enough for initial prime but not enough to stay primed and heats up trying to keep up. I don't think I can get the pump (inlet) below the pickup but I'm going to look at it again and see if I can make it work.
