Suspension Newb

First Post!!

I just bought a 67 shortbed, and going to end up doing a full frame off on it, but want to drive it this year while i obtain all the parts and finish the drive line for it, so im just going to do suspension and brake maintenance.

Want to do disc all the way around and do a 4 link setup in the back, but i have no idea where to begin. My motor is going to be making some good power so im eventually going to be replacing the Rear End, so a complete rear suspension, rear end swap is great if anyone has any recommendations.

Re: Suspension Newb

Welcome to the board!
Do some searching around and reading here in the suspension area.
Do you plan on lowering your truck?
Is this going to be a race only chassis set-up?
Street driven?

There should also be some good Drag Race style 4-link threads in the
Racing and Hi-Performance Section.

Re: Suspension Newb

Any reason you want to get rid of the trailing arm set-up?
This is a good thread:

JK- Before you buy any parts, make sure you have a solid plan for the "end result". Make a list of all the items that will be needed to accomplish this. That way you can help eliminating buying a part that cannot be used in the end. This will help you stay on budget.

Re: Suspension Newb

This forum and its members will be extremely helpful in formulating your list.

Decide the stance. Then make a list of all the parts to get you there. Once the list is populated, you can priorotize the items and put together a "purchasing schedule". This will allow you to both budget, and purchase items in their appropriate order. This will help keep you from buying things you don't need, or buying them out of order.

Re: Suspension Newb

You can accomplish that stance with some bags and a mild c-notch in the rear... you will want to re-locate the shocks and get a longer trac-bar.

Up front you should be able to get away with factory arms, bags, shock relocator kit and a pair of drop spindles. You will also want a sway bar.

Don't forget you will also need an air management system.

Do some research, make a budget.... and you're halfway there!

That front crossmember will be really close to the ground at that height. I wouldn't recommend driving it at that height due to the minimal ground clearance. There is a thread here in the suspension forum that shows the damage caused by hanging up on a manhole cover. OUCH
