'67-'72 Accessories Article

This is another article my friend Kevin Lee reprinted in Classic Trucks in 2003 a couple years after it originally ran in Sport Truck magazine. Hope you guys like it.

Re: '67-'72 Accessories Article

Great article. I will say however, i don't think the vacuum gauge was available in the 10-30 series trucks. And i have yet to see a speed warning come out of a big truck. I am not saying it isn't possible, but have never seen it.
Is there a place to purchase any of these old mags? Would need exact months and years, but would be neat to have some of these.
Nice write up, Eric

My Instrument information came from one of the guys who has parted (actually removing them from trucks) and restored more clusters than just about anyone- Gary Kinion. I know that speed warnings were definitely in big trucks and he gave me the info about the vac gauges.

This article ran in the Sept. 2003 issue of Classic Trucks.
The Spotters Guide ran in the October 2003 issue of Classic Trucks.
The Collecting literature story was in the August 2003 issue of Classic Trucks.

Re: '67-'72 Accessories Article

Eric,

There's a good chance some of this might be archived on Source Interlink's websites. Even though Sport Truck is dead, they kept its web alive. Classic Trucks, and Custom Classic Trucks have been archiving on thier websites like crazy. The best way is to do a Google search something like this: Classic Trucks Kevin Lee 67-72 Chevy.

Now I have to see what that actually brings up in a search.

Re: '67-'72 Accessories Article

this article is part of the confusion that many people have telling what is an option (installed on the assembly line) and what is an accessory (sold over the counter at the dealer). The thing that makes the waters even more muddy on this, is many factory options were also sold as accessories, like the cargo light and seat belts... but stuff like the 8 track and vent shades were never offered as factory installed items.
And not, the vac guage was never factory installed in 10 - 30 trucks, with the possible exception of special fleet order/gov ordered trucks.
The storage box on the bed side came into play in 1970.
The horn button mentioned was supposed to be only on CST trucks, and to my knowledge never over the counter.
Still an interesting article though

Re: '67-'72 Accessories Article

I think the caption that says "While most of the OPTIONS were factory installed a few were designed to be dealer add-ons to spruce up a truck on the lot..." explains that not all of the items were assembly line pieces.

Also the caption on the tool box points out that it's exact date of availability is questionable as certain "experts" like yourself have seen them in 1969 trucks. 1970 may be official, just going with what the facts say.

all you need to do is get a peice of metal kinda like the stabilizer brackets on the frame and weld a male end seat belt to it and bam! i might just satrt makin these and selling them they will have no value because they arent original but they are better because they will be metal!

Re: '67-'72 Accessories Article

here is how i mounted mine on buddies. I have factory shoulder harness so i need 4 of them. I dont know how the factory did this or if it could be had with buddies but this worked the best and kept everythng clean inside the cab.

Re: '67-'72 Accessories Article

Back to the article...COOL!!! Thanks for sharing. I never saw that. I had actually all but stopped looking at magazines much at all by the time these truck magazines came out. I guess I had outgrown the trendy mini truck and showy stuff Truckin' was putting out and I became turned off. I did enjoy the issues I picked up. I guess I missed out.

Re: '67-'72 Accessories Article

I remember that article, I loved that one! Regrettably the mag did not survive from me looking at that article over and over again!

I also believe it was harvest at the time in the '69 GMC 3 ton and it was the only reading I had between getting loads with the combine!

Re: '67-'72 Accessories Article

Remember the article...still have the issue. I do have one of the last rare items mentioned...the original gas cap. Had a '72 GMC tilt column, but traded it for a cab.
