66 temp sensor wiring
I have looked over a couple different wiring diagrams and looked over the truck. One wiring diagram says green wire, another says a dark green wire. My question is, which firewall connector does the temp sensor wire go through? My engine bay had no wire and I'm trying to wire the bad boy up. I'd like to be able to run my wire to the firewall connector and make the splice there. I tried looking behind the instrument cluster to see if I could just follow it but there is too much old tape around all of the connectors.
If there is a simpler way, please let me know. Thanks for the help. Sean |

Re: 66 temp sensor wiring
Mine goes through the firewall by the distributor, not sure if that is stock or not. Mine is green, not sure of the shade off hand but I'll look in a bit. I will see if I can't get a picture, too.

Re: 66 temp sensor wiring
I see a plug there on the drivers side, by the distributor, where there are three wires coming out of it. On my truck (66) those three wires go down by the tranny. I'd love it if that was the one I needed.

Re: 66 temp sensor wiring
SS317,
Looking directly at the connector as it comes out of the firewall, the temp wire is the upper left connection. (The two other wires are the ammeter, and the ignition start wire, both going down to the starter). TR

Re: 66 temp sensor wiring
I must be looking at the wrong connector. The one I'm looking at has three wires, and the upper/left hand wire is yellow with a stripe. The right one is green. They go down to the bottom, drivers side of the tranny. I'll dig some more. Thank you for the help.

Re: 66 temp sensor wiring
SS,
Heat is good. I just got mine going a couple of weeks ago. I pulled out the manual and it doesn't seem to agree with how my truck is wired, and I believe that my connector is wired as stock. So I guess I have no idea which wire is supposed to go where. Sorry to add to the confusion. TR

Re: 66 temp sensor wiring
My truck is a wiring mess. The guy who put the 350 engine in didn't run/cut/tied into all sorts of stuff. I went ahead and bought an aftermarket temp gauge and installed it today. I just wasn't comfortable driving the truck around not knowing the temp. The truck has been sitting for almost 2 years before I got it and I'm driving it around now trying to get all of the bugs worked out. I'll start ringing wires with my multimeter when it warms up a little or I can find a garage.
THanks for your help, I appreciate it. |
